Description

This Astrobin Debut Object is an irregular galaxy located 70 million light years away in the constellation of Pegasus at a declination of +15 degrees.  This low surface brightness galaxy spans 2 arc-minutes in our apparent view, which corresponds to a diameter of 40,000 light years.

This galaxy is blue throughout indicating recent star formation.  The galaxy is close enough for us to see distinct blue star clouds within the loose disk, along with a roughly barred central section.  This is one of those irregular galaxies which looks like an evolving spiral to me.  My collection of these types of objects is shown here.

A distant galaxy is seen through the right edge of this galaxy, appearing as a short but distinct 7 arc-second white smudge.

The smaller orange smudges in the background are galaxies that are about 2 billion light years away.
